Education

Education is one of the largest and most dependable industries in Yobe State and constitutes the 10-point agenda of the
present administration. Education remains the only veritable tool of socio-economic development, and the only legacy worth bequeathing the next generation, anywhere in the world. This realization has been a driving force for the government and administration of Yobe State in putting together a proper and sustainable foundation for the educational system in the state to
foster even development.

To drive this objective, the Yobe State Government has created the Ministry of Education to undertake all the Educational Services in the state, with the aim of positively influencing and reshaping the present educational system in Yobe State with a view to improving capacity and performance outcomes by redirecting and optimizing resources, designing effective policies, setting timelines in order to maximize educational excellence, and progressively moving towards the attainment of the desired quality education standards.

In line with the national policy on education, the ministry believes that there is no greater force for socio-economic and political advancement than a good educational system realistically organized and judiciously supplied with skilled and professionally qualified teachers.

The Ministry, therefore, aims at providing an enriched educational experience for students in schools through the provision of quality standards, pedagogy excellence, appropriate teaching methods or approaches, learning resources, and instructional materials that are all indispensable ingredients that guarantee high-quality education leading to stimulating learning experience and excellent performance.

In order to achieve its policy objective, the present Administration has set out to:

1.    Revamped
educational system with a view to making all critical elements of modern education (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics STEAM) not only interesting but also accessible to all its citizens.

2.  To ensure that the STEAM educational model serves as the platform for propelling the state to prosperity and healthy living.

EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION

For effective administration of education policies, the state has the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education Science, and Technology headed by the Honorable Commissioner and with the support of the Permanent Secretary.

Ongoing Reforms in the Education Sector

Despite the government’s concerted
efforts and huge investment into the Education Sector, there still exists a gap/deficit in areas of infrastructural needs of this sector.

With the ongoing reforms in the Education sector, individuals and Organizations can own and operate Educational Institutions in Yobe state, with the government only coming in as a regulator, with a view to achieving its policy objective.

Also, the realization that government cannot fund education alone even if all the budget of the state is earmarked for the education sector has made us seek partnerships and investments from corporate bodies and private investors to take advantage of the abundant investment opportunities in our Education Sector.

The Yobe State government would welcome
investments in the following areas:

1. Direct Establishment management of Schools that meets acceptable Standards.

2.  Build and Operate Low-cost Student Hostels accommodation for an ever-growing student population in the state.

3.  Build and Manage Students’ recreational/Social centers.

4.  Establishment of Private libraries, Research Centers, and Laboratories.

5.   Provision of Lecture Theaters and other learning facilities under Public Private partnership (PPP) arrangement.

6.  Provision of student Loan services with flexible terms and conditions.

7.     Provision of other Ancillary services.

Incentives and Government Support

·        Government would provide Land and Basic Infrastructure.

·        Tax Holiday.

·        Up to 100% foreign ownership.

·        Provide an enabling environment for Private sector investment in the education Sector.
